Dr. Morton is an Internationally renowned photonics visionary with 20 years experience in research and product development. He was involved in early R&D on RF photonics while at Marconi Defense Systems in the 1980’s. As a member of technical staff at AT&T Bell Laboratories in the 1990’s, Dr. Morton carried out pioneering research on high speed photonic devices, including directly modulated lasers (world records achieved), mode-locked pulse sources and integrated devices including electroabsorption modulated lasers (EMLs), as well as the system applications of these devices.

Dr. Morton joined CIENA Corporation, a pioneer of DWDM transmission systems, and played a key role as Director of Active Photonic components, carrying out R&D and qualifying all active photonic components for CIENA systems.

In 2002, Dr. Morton founded Morton Photonics Inc., where he is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO). This successful photonics R&D company has supported numerous device and system level companies, in areas including: photonic device and sub-system design, testing, simulation, qualification, system level applications and test-beds, test facility design and build, technology and roadmap planning, marketing advice and executive management positions Dr. Morton has also provided advice and due diligence to money management firms and on intellectual property rights issues.

Dr. Morton was elected a Fellow of the Optical Society of America, in recognition for ‘fundamental contributions to high-speed optical transmitters and implementation into DWDM transmission systems’,
