Morton Photonics is developing Ultra-Low-Noise Lasers in support of its SBIR Phase II program with the Navy, to be used in submarine based sensing systems. The unique laser design provides a low-cost approach to obtaining the ultra-low-noise performance for use in DoD sensing systems. The device is based on standard telecom system style sub-components, providing significant cost reduction compared to existing ultra-low-noise laser approaches. A prototype ULN Laser is shown.
Morton Photonics is interested to expand this work to develop lasers for use in a variety of fields, including RF photonic systems and as the laser source for complex modulation formats in advanced digital communication systems (optical fiber and free space). Morton Photonics is interested to obtain funding for ideas to integrate the ultra-low-noise laser design into a silcon photonics platform, for future integration with additional silicon photonics components.
